How We're Handling Quarantine

Today marks one month since we entered quarantine. Zach started working from home on Friday the 13th and it’s crazy to think about how quickly everything has changed. Just earlier that week I picked up my dress from the tailor for my friend Elaine’s late March wedding. Earlier that month I’d even flown to LA to get tattoos with my friend, Jules. Zach and I planned to spend the second half of March driving out to Solvang for my dad’s birthday and then up to Napa the following weekend for the wedding, but as you can guess, things didn’t go that way. It was heartbreaking postponing those events, but they’re now something especially happy to look forward to after all of this is behind us!

Quarantine has been an adjustment and some days are still harder than others, but I’m finding it does get better with time (and the right distractions). Zach and I have found a good mix of things that work for us, both to feel productive and to get some much needed downtime. Here’s what we’ve been up to during quarantine:

DAILY DOG WALKS

Normally I take Finn on a walk every morning by myself, so having Zach home to go on lunchtime walks with has been such a nice change! We stick to our neighborhood and always wear masks and keep our distance from other people, but our daily walk outside is a nice mental break. I’m also pretty sure Finn thinks every day is the weekend now.

COOKING TOGETHER

Zach and I love to cook anyway, but since starting quarantine we’ve made every meal every day, and we’re having a lot of fun with it! We’re not quite at bread making level, but it’s been a nice challenge to make the most with what we have and get creative with it. Some of our favorites have been this Wu Haus Broccoli Soup, Thug Kitchen Cauliflower Tacos, and a whole bunch of incredible things Zach whips up that I have no recipe for. I will never stop suggesting he open his own restaurant.

STEPPING

I’m not a gym person. If I have to drive somewhere to workout that isn’t a hiking trail, I probably won’t do it. If I can conveniently workout in my own house, though, that’s something I’ll commit to. I bought this Stair Stepper from Amazon before the quarantine started and I’m SO happy I did. I jump on it every day for 20-30 minutes and I’m already noticing a difference in how I look and feel. Zach does his own workout routine and will get on the stepper as well, usually wearing a backpack full of weights because he’s insane.

TIGER KING

The dumpster fire of a documentary we couldn’t stop watching. Tiger King hit Netflix at the perfect time to give us an escape from coronavirus news. It wasn’t exactly the happiest of distractions, but it gave us a LOT to talk about. Anyone else have “I Saw a Tiger” stuck in their head for at least three days?

BUYING A HOUSE

In some other big news, we bought a house!!! I haven’t shared anything about it yet since we’re still in escrow, but I can’t wait to post more about it soon. We’re so in love with our future home and still pretty in shock we found it.

And to end on the happiest of notes, we live in a world where this is now possible (starting at the 11 minute 30 second mark):
