Our Room Plan

When we found our house, one thing that wasn’t clear right away was which bedroom would be ours. There are three similarly sized bedrooms upstairs, a bedroom in the basement, and an office on the main floor that could be another bedroom if we needed. After spending some time in each, thinking about long-term plans, where guests would most like to stay, and day-to-day functionality, we decided on the upstairs bedroom we’ve been calling “the pink room.”

The plan for our room is pretty simple now that we’ve removed the wallpaper and painted — so happy to have that over with! Because our house is bigger than anywhere we’ve previously lived but the bedrooms are on the smaller side, we don't feel the need to turn our room into a multi-functional space. Instead of cluttering it with more furniture and knick knacks than necessary, our aim is to create a relaxing space to get ready and sleep. Nothing complicated!

When looking for inspiration photos I focused mostly on neutral color palettes, natural materials, and rooms with interesting angles and corners, like our new bedroom has. We don’t need to buy much, so I wanted the inspiration to feel a lot like our old bedroom, just more refined. With a few intentional purchases I’m hoping this space will come together!

FURNITURE

We have most of our bedroom furniture already, but a dresser was one thing we were missing. Our old room was too small to fit one, but our new room has the perfect spot for a taller, narrower style. I looked on all my usual sites for a mid century modern dresser and wasn’t loving what I was finding, and then I checked Facebook Marketplace. This Broyhill Saga highboy dresser was listed for an absolute steal, and it was only a few miles away! We picked it up later that day and I still can’t believe our luck. The little carved stars make my heart melt and I can’t wait to share photos of it in our space in a room reveal post soon!

LIGHTING

For bedside lighting we really like sconces, but don’t want to commit to hardwiring just in case we want to do something different in the future. We’ve had plug-in glass globe sconces for a few years and like the light they cast, but we’re still undecided on what style we’d like for our new room. I’ve been gravitating towards brass finishes and have found a few lamps with white and natural colored power cords, which is a plus!

One thing we already updated is the ceiling fan. The old one was massive and sat really low with dangling pull chains right at face-hitting level. We got this Alyce 3-Blade Fan from Wayfair during their Memorial Day sale and love the more modern look of it. We attached the fan mount flush to the ceiling, giving us way more space underneath!

DECOR

I’ve had my eye on Article’s Oma Rug for a while and made that another Memorial Day sale purchase. I had a feeling the circular shape would fit the room well, and we’re so happy with how it turned out!

Final touches will be a mirror for over the dresser, curtains and curtain rods, a doorknob for the closet, and a few photos and artwork. We don’t have a plan for what we want to do in the window nook yet, so for now we’re keeping it simple.
