Support Black Owned Businesses

In a recent post by @aurorajames she asked people to do one thing: commit to buying 15% of their products from Black owned businesses. It doesn’t sound like much, but looking around my house I realized just how few products I have from Black owned businesses, myself. It wasn’t something I’d done on purpose, it just wasn’t something I was conscious about.

Being conscious of where we place our spending power is important. Making the choice to buy just 15% of your products — any products! — from Black owned businesses is such a small act that can have a much bigger impact long term. It’s something we can all do, not just today, or this week, but for life. Here’s where I’ll be shopping:

54kibo

Beautiful pillows, light fixtures, wall art, baskets, and more. I’m looking at their Moroccan inspired lighting and cotton rope baskets!

xn studio

Batik textiles, kitchen + dining, furniture, and more. I have my eye on these mudcloth pillows as well as a few other patterns in their collection!

Linoto

100% Linen bedding, bath and home items in beautiful colors like this terra cotta. I’m looking at their sheet sets and pillowcases for summer time!

On A Bad Day

These candles are so popular they’ve sold out, but they’re currently taking pre-orders! I got the cedarwood, cloves, cinnamon + nutmeg which sounds so perfect for fall.

Ciara J Co

Ciara creates the most elegant ring dishes and I fell in love the minute I saw her work. Her shop is currently taking a short break, but I can’t wait to shop when it’s back!

Lolly Lolly

If you’re looking for handmade ceramics, this is the place for you! Made by artist Lalese in Columbus, Ohio, who completed a 100 day project where she created the mugs you see above, as well as 95 others in an incredible display of creativity.

Isatu Hyde

Just look at that bread cloche. I can honestly say I want everything they have, including their pottery lessons!

Wild Lather

If you’re on the hunt for a gorgeous bath product that does everything, look no further. These triangular shaped soaps can be used for full-body bathing, shaving, as face wash, and shampoo, making them awesome for travel as well!

Goodnight Darling Co

Not only are these products beautiful, but they’re so affordable! I’m planning to buy their room sprays, bath soaks, and candles as gifts for my friends as well as a couple for myself.

Golde

Superfood-boosted health and beauty products, all of which look good enough to eat because you can! Their latte blends look unbelievably good and I can’t wait to try the clean greens face mask.

KNC Beauty

Lip and eye masks so cute you can’t help but smile when you see them! I got a 5-pack of these little shooting stars which look like the perfect pick-me-up after a long day.

R-KI-TEKT

Beautiful leather goods, accessories, and jewelry, perfect as gifts and for yourself! I love their passport covers and cord keepers and can’t wait to use mine the next time I travel.

Jitterbug Art

Latasha Dunston of Jitterbug Art is a local artist here in Denver. Zach found her work on Instagram a while back and I’ve had a sticker of one of her paintings on my water bottle for over a year now. I love her style and when she restocks more prints I’m planning to buy some for our house. If there are local Black artists whose work resonates with you, I encourage you to support them by purchasing a piece of their work!

Bloom & Noosh

I’ve been interested in finding a local floral delivery company and I’m so happy to have found this one! If you’re in the Denver area, this company delivers petite and full sized bouquets that change weekly for a new surprise every time.

Shop at MATTER

We recently bought White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo from a local Denver bookstore and it’s so exciting to see their Instagram post from a few hours ago:

“We are BLOWN AWAY by the support you guys have been showing us! So many of you have placed orders in the last few days (over 700 books in 3 days!).”

If you’re planning to buy a book anytime soon, especially a book on race, I highly encourage you find a local Black owned bookstore to support.
