Packing For Our Move

We’re only nine days away from closing on our house! I can’t believe the wait is almost over — I really thought escrow would drag. I’ve still been counting down the days, but they’re flying by way faster than I expected!

Zach and I are really fortunate to have a month of overlap with the house we’ve been renting, which takes a lot of pressure off the move. We’re planning to take smaller loads of stuff in our cars and will hopefully only need to rent a u-haul for the bigger furniture. It’s a huge difference from our last move where we had to pack everything we owned into a shipping container that was driven on a freight truck from LA to Denver. Zach and I caravanned, each of our cars also packed to the brim. Let’s be real, mine was mostly full of plants. Finn + Kirby were not big fans of the two-day, thousand-mile trek it took to get to our new home, but luckily this time it’s just a 10 minute drive.

We started with the non-essentials this past weekend, like picture frames and decor, and it’s been bittersweet packing it all up. It’s pretty crazy to see the rooms I spent over a year thinking about, finding the right pieces for, rearranging, and finally getting to a place where I feel they’re complete now look so empty in a matter of minutes. Our things will of course come with us, but still, a lot of memories have been made while living under this roof.

This house was our landing pad on our big adventure to live in a new state for the first time. Zach and I have relied on each other more than ever since moving here, with most of our friends and all of our family now a plane ride away. We’ve grown a lot more here than I could have ever imagined and it’s become a much more meaningful place to me than just another house we rented. It’s hard not to feel a little nostalgic already knowing we won’t be here too much longer, but we still have some time to take it all in and we also have exciting things to look forward to!

Our new house is in fact not new at all! We can’t wait to get into some diy home improvement projects as we bring new life to our 1930s Tudor farmhouse we still can’t believe we found. Expect plenty of posts on that in the future :)
