Winter Hike

Hey friends! Can you believe the holidays are already over and winter is here in full force? I feel like it was just fall a minute ago! As someone with a mildly unhealthy boot and coat obsession who grew up in a place with virtually no seasons, I'm beyond excited to finally put them to good use.

Zach, Finn and I got out into the mountains this past weekend in search of some snow. We've been getting some occasional dustings, but for the most part Denver is still pretty snow-free. We did a bit of exploring and ended up finding a cool trail just down the road from us with plenty of fresh powder for Finn to run around in. He's LOVING it here, by the way.

My favorite jacket for winter time hands down is this Patagonia parka. Just because it's cold outside, that doesn't stop us from hitting the hiking trails and this parka is a must-wear. It's fully fleece-lined for extra warmth and has a durable canvas exterior, so I'm never worried about scuffing up my jacket if I’m scrambling over rocks.

It runs pretty true to size, but if you're planning on layering a bulky sweater or jacket underneath, consider going up one size. While on the pricier end, I know I'll be getting my money's worth wearing this jacket on repeat all winter long.

I've had my Sorel boots for years (you can find a similar style here) and they've held up so well through al weather conditions and on freezing cold camping trips. They're incredibly comfortable, warm, and sturdy, which is great because I’m super clumsy and trip on everything. I normally wear a 7 1/2 but sized up to an 8 to allow room for thicker socks. Speaking of, my fair isle printed socks are from Madewell. They’re a few seasons old, but you can find similar ones here.

To stay extra warm, I’m wearing a beanie from Madewell in my current favorite rust color, Smartwool gloves, and I layered two pairs of leggings. The base layer is also from Smartwool and the warmest things EVER (truly, they’re a lifesaver during winter) and on top are my go-to leggings from Joy Lab.
